GI Map Testing - Sydney & Online

Find out exactly what's driving your gut symptoms - with a GI Map test

A GI Map uses metagenomic sequencing to map your entire gut ecosystem in detail - bacteria, pathogens, parasites, fungi and more. It's a comprehensive stool test that shows what's actually driving your symptoms, used by Wholme Naturopathy to get to the root cause rather than manage symptoms indefinitely.

Common reasons people order a GI Map

Sound familiar?

  • Bloating that won’t shift

  • IBS diagnosis

  • Constipation or loose stools

  • Food sensitivities

  • Skin issues (eczema, acne)

  • Fatigue & brain fog

  • Reflux or heartburn

  • Anxiety & mood changes

  • Tried everything, no answers

The GI Map gives you data, not guesswork. Instead of trialling treatments and hoping for improvement, we test first - then build a protocol around what your results actually show.

What is the GI Map?

A GI Map is a comprehensive stool test that uses metagenomic sequencing - the gold standard in gut microbiome research. Unlike older stool cultures that rely on growing organisms in a lab, metagenomic sequencing reads the DNA of everything present in your sample, giving a complete picture of your entire gut ecosystem.

A single at-home stool sample is analysed for bacteria, pathogens, parasites, fungi and gut health markers. You collect the sample at home, post it to the lab, and results are ready within 15–20 days.

The test alone doesn't fix anything. What it does is give us a detailed, objective picture of what's happening in your gut- so treatment isn't guesswork, and supplements aren't random.

"Most gut symptoms have a direct cause. The GI Map often shows us something that's been missed - a parasite, a bacterial overgrowth, intestinal permeability, gut inflammation - that explains why things haven't improved despite trying."

How it works

The whole process is straightforward - no clinic visit required to collect your sample.

What the GI Map Measures

Gut microbiome (all tiers)

  • Bacteria - beneficial, commensal and opportunistic

  • Fungi including Candida species

  • Archaea and other microorganisms

  • Species diversity and dysbiosis indicators

GI health markers (Extended & Comprehensive)

  • Gut inflammation indicators

  • Digestive function markers

  • Immune health signals

Pathogen screening (Comprehensive)

  • Bacterial pathogens (H. pylori, Campylobacter, Salmonella, E. coli)

  • Parasites (Giardia, Cryptosporidium, Blastocystis)

  • Viral and other infectious agents

Three testing tiers available. Most clients start with Comprehensive for the most complete picture. Debbie will recommend the right option at your consultation.

When a GI Map makes sense

If you've been managing symptoms rather than resolving them - or if you've had normal GP results but still feel unwell - a GI Map often shows what standard testing misses.

Unexplained bloating & IBS

Bloating, wind, alternating bowel habits or an IBS label without a clear cause. The GI Map checks for bacterial overgrowth, pathogens and poor digestive function.

Fatigue & brain fog

Persistent tiredness, poor concentration or low mood alongside gut symptoms can indicate bacterial overgrowth, parasites, or significant microbial imbalance.

Gut symptoms that don't respond to treatment

You've tried probiotics, elimination diets, or supplements - and nothing sticks. Results show whether the approach is targeting the right issue.

You want a clinical baseline

Even without dramatic symptoms, the GI Map gives you a comprehensive starting point — especially useful if you have a family history of gut or autoimmune conditions.

Skin issues linked to gut health

Eczema, acne, rosacea and psoriasis often have a gut connection. Dysbiosis, leaky gut markers and inflammation show up clearly on the GI Map.

Post-infection gut issues

Gut symptoms that started after gastro, travel, antibiotics or COVID. The GI Map checks whether a pathogen is still present or the microbiome is still disrupted.

Meet Your Naturopath

I'm a degree-qualified naturopath with a clinical focus on gut health, hormones, thyroid and skin. The GI Map is one of the tests I use most regularly - because when gut symptoms are involved, having objective data changes everything.

Rather than trialling treatments and hoping for improvement, I prefer to test first and build a protocol around what your results actually show. It's a more direct path to feeling better, and it means the supplements and dietary changes we use have a clear rationale behind them.

I see clients in person at my clinic in Frenchs Forest (Northern Beaches) and online across Australia.

Common questions

  • Yes - Debbie can arrange the test kit for you and then review the results together in a follow-up consultation. A consultation first is recommended so we can confirm the test is the right fit, but it's not required. Contact the clinic to work out the best starting point for you.

  • Yes. The test kit is posted to your address anywhere in Australia, and consultations are available via telehealth. Location is no barrier to ordering a GI Map through Wholme.

  • The GI Map test cost is separate from the consultation fee. The total investment includes the initial consult, the lab fee, and a results consultation. Contact the clinic for current pricing.

  • Standard stool cultures rely on growing organisms in a lab, which misses anything that doesn't culture well - a significant limitation. The GI Map uses metagenomic sequencing, which reads the DNA of every organism in your sample directly. It identifies far more species, with greater accuracy, than older testing methods can achieve.

  • The kit includes clear instructions. Collection is done at home using a simple swab. The sample is stable for several days when stored correctly and posted in the provided envelope.

  • Your results are discussed in full during a follow-up consultation. We build a treatment plan - dietary changes, targeted supplements, and specific interventions - based on your findings. We don't hand you a report and leave you to interpret it.
